Zeera Aloo ~ Spicy Potatoes

Zeera Aloo is a simple but irresistible potato dish which has a nice blend of roasted cumin and coriander which provides that great taste. This dish taste excellent with Rotis or Plain Parathas. Enjoy  :) ~ Kamakshi

Prep Time : 20 Mins                                            Cook Time : 15 Mins
Serves : 4

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 Medium Size Potatoes, boiled and diced
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin (Zeera) seeds
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric (Haldi) Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds, slighted roasted and coarsely grinded
  • 1 tsp Cumin (Zeera), roasted and coarsely grinded
  • 2-3 Dry Red Chillies
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

  1. Heat Oil in a pan, add the cumin seeds and dry whole chillies and saute it for couple of seconds, till the cumin seeds starts crackling. Add the red chilli powder, turmeric and salt and mix .
  2. Add the diced potatoes and mix with the oil and spices. Then add the roasted coriander and cumin powder and mix well in the potatoes. Cook for 2-3 mins
  3. Serve hot with Rotis.

Tangy Tomato Salsa ~ Nepali Style

My Grand Mom’s Nepali style Salsa :) .  This salsa can be served with corn chips, roasted Papads, french fries and even Pakoras :) ~ Kamakshi

Prep Time : 10 mins                                    Cook Time : 5 mins
Serves : 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 Medium Ripe Tomatoes
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3-4 green Chillies, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger, finely chopped
  • 4-5 Mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 Sprig Coriander/Cilantro , finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Mustard Oil
  • Salt to Taste

METHOD 

  1. Blanch the tomatoes in hot water, remove the skin and put in a blender and make it into a puree.
  2. Add all the chopped ingredients, chilli powder, lemon juice and salt to the tomato puree and mix well.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds to the hot oil. They will splutter so  you need to be careful. Switch of the gas and pour the oil and mustard seeds on top of the salsa.
  4. Serve with Corn Chips /Papads/ salads
