Sangria ~ Summer Cocktail

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Bottle of red wine
  • 1 Lemon cut into wedges
  • 1 Orange cut into wedges
  • 1 Lime cut into wedges
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of brandy
  • 2 pieces of cinnamon
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 Cup strawberries (may use thawed or frozen)
  • 1 cup Apple cubed
  • 1 Small can of diced pineapples (with juice)
  • 4 Cups ginger ale / Sprite

METHOD

  1. Pour wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds ), cut apples and pineapple then add sugar,cinnamon, cloves orange juice and brandy. Chill overnight.
  2. Add ginger ale/Sprite, sliced strawberries and ice just before serving.If you’d like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice.However, remember that the best Sangrias are chilled around 24 hours in the frig. – allowing the flavors to really marinate into each other. 
  3. Pour in a cocktail bowl and served chilled…. Enjoy !!!

GrandMa’s Papaya Hulwa

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Kg Ripe Papaya
  • 5 Green Cardamom ( the seeds should be removed and grind-ed into powder )
  • 1/4 cup Raisins (soak in water for 10-15 mins to soften it )
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Oil
  • 2 tsp Ghee

METHOD

  1. Peel the papaya and cut into small cubes. Put the pieces in a pan with 1 cup water and cook it for 20 mins till the papaya become soft. The amount of water and time can be adjusted based on the ripeness of the papaya. The idea is to get it soft so that you can mash it up.
  2. When the papaya gets soft enough, mash it properly, add the sugar and cook for couple of minutes till the water dries up.
  3. Add Oil, cardamom powder, raisins and cook for 2-3 mins.
  4. Add the Ghee cook for about 2 mins and serve hot.
  5. You an also add slivers of almonds on top of the Hulwa before serving 🙂 ! Enjoy
